CBT and DBT are two forms of “talk therapy.”
CBT stands for Cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT helps the client reframe the way they see a problem. Change the way they think about it.
DBT stands for Dialectical behavioral therapy. DBT helps the client cope with the problem.
For example, let’s say there is a puddle of water on your kitchen floor. CBT may help you realize that it’s not that big of a deal, there are more important issues to deal with right now. DBT, on the other hand, may help you decide to grab a mop and quickly clean up the mess. The difference is in reframing vs. coping.
