Intraconference games
- Each team will play three games against the other teams in the same conference (3 games against 14 opponents equals 42 games), with each match-up featuring either two home games and one road game or vice versa. The league office randomly selects which teams play twice at home.
Interconference games
- Each team will play two games against each team from the other conference (2 games against the 15 opponents from the other conference equals 30 total games), with each match-up featuring one home game and one road game.
Add up the 42 intraconference games and the 30 interconference games, and you have 72 regular-season games per team.
