Mani's and Pedi's

Manicures

  • Manicures are a beauty treatment for your fingernails
  • Basic manicure – Nail cleaning
    • The steps in a basic manicure:
      • Remove any existing nail polish with nail polish remover or acetone to create a blank canvas
      • Soak the hands in a bowl of warm water to soften the cuticles
      • File and shape the nails
      • Push back and clean the cuticles
      • Apply oil to the cuticles to keep them healthy
      • Massage the hands to end the pamper session
  • Layering design on top of a basic manicure
    • Types of nail art
      • Nail polish – Nail polish is a type of lacquer that’s used to decorate fingernails and toenails. Lacquer is a liquid substance that dries to form a hard protective coating.
      • Acrylic coloring – Acrylics are a combination of a liquid monomer and a powder polymer that combine to form a paste that is brushed onto the natural nail. It then hardens in place to add strength and thickness to the nail.
      • Gel – A gel manicure uses a gel-based polish and requires a UV or LED light to cure the polish and lock it onto the nails. Gel manicures look like regular nail polish with the added benefits that they last longer and feel sturdier.
      • Acrylic vs Gel
        • Acrylics are much stronger than gel so if you’re looking to extend your nail quite a bit with a nail tip, you would want acrylics. But if you’re going for more of a natural look, gel is what you’d want.
      • Nail tips
        • An acrylic tip is made of plastic, attaches to the end of the nail, and requires an acrylic coating to secure it to the nail.
        • In contrast, gel nail extensions are pre-shaped nail tips that are made completely out of the gel and cover the entire nail. Think press-on nails but more durable and versatile.
      • How to remove acrylic and gel
        • Removing acrylic and gel work the same way. Buff the nails to get the shine off, then soak in acetone for 5 minutes. Afterward, use a cuticle pusher to scrape the polish off the nails. They should come off pretty easily.

Pedicures

  • Pedicures are a beauty treatment for your feet.
  • The core parts of a pedicure and manicure are exactly the same. The differences between the two are that with a pedicure:
    • A significant amount of time is spent on exfoliation of the feet or callus smoothing.
    • Nail tips aren’t added to toenails
  • Like manicures, pedicures can be done with nail polish, acrylics, or gel.
