The NBA playoffs include 16 teams, 8 teams from the Eastern Conference and 8 teams from the Western Conference.
There are 30 NBA teams, 15 teams in each conference. Each conference is made up of three divisions with 5 teams in each group.
1. Eastern Conference
  1. Atlantic Division: Boston, Brooklyn, NY, Philly, Toronto
  2. Central Division: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indiana, Milwaukee
  3. Southeast Division: Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, Washington
2. Western Conference
  1. Northwest Division: Denver, Minnesota, Oklahoma City, Portland, Utah
  2. Pacific Division: Golden State, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Phoenix, Sacramento
  3. Southwest Division: Dallas, Houston, Memphis, New Orleans, San Antonio
Each team plays 82 regular-season games (72 games during the shortened 2020-21 season).
In recent years, after Jordan retired 20 years ago, it is widely believed that the Western Conference is stronger than the Eastern Conference. One reason for this is that the Western Conference has won the NBA finals 14 out of the last 20 seasons. That fact aside, this belief seems like conjecture because the historical regular season winning percentages of Western Conference teams hasn’t been significantly higher than the teams in the East.
