In baseball, a no-hitter is when a team that batted in at least nine innings recorded no hits. The pitcher for the winning team is said to have “thrown a no-hitter”. A pure no-hitter is when a single pitcher throws the complete game. When the game is thrown by two or more pitchers, is a combined no-hitter.
A no-hitter is a rare achievement—only 309 have been thrown in MLB history since 1876. That is an average of about two no-hitters per year.
