The Bible is the Christian book of God’s laws, actions, and the plan that God has for humanity. Its writing took over 40 different authors to write over sixteen centuries and is divided into two volumes namely the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament, which comprises 39 books, is the original Hebrew Bible, the sacred scriptures of the Jewish faith, written at different times between about 1200 and 165 BC. The New Testament comprises 27 books and was written by Christians in the first century AD. The New Testament consists of stories of the creation, the good and the bad, the prophets, and the life of Jesus and is presented in form of poems, songs, proverbs, parables, prophecies, and narratives.
The Old Testament
The Old Testament tells the relationship between God and his creation before the emergence of Jesus in the first five books (Torah) namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, and was written by Moses. The Former Prophets comprise Joshua, judges, Samuel 1, Samuel 2, Kings 1, Kings 2, Isiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel. The Minor Prophets comprises Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zachariah, and Malachi. The writings include Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Nehemiah, Ezra, Chronicles 1, and Chronicles 2.
The New Testament
The New Testament comprises the Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John; Apostolic history – Acts of the Apostles; Letters of Paul – Romans, Corinthians 1, Corinthians 2, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians 1, Thessalonians 2, Timothy 1, Timothy 2, Titus, Philemon; Epistles – Hebrews, James, Peter 1, Peter 2, John 1, John 2, John 3, and Jude; the Apocalypse – Revelation to John.
