Before his death, Jesus Christ promised his disciples that a comforter; The Holy Spirit would visit them at their darkest hour and empower them to rise above the persecution that they have been facing after the resurrection of Jesus. This event was to be called The Pentecost (Acts 2:4), and it took place 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus. The apostles were gathered in Jerusalem, hiding for fear of the persecutors. The Holy Spirit came upon them and tongues of fire hovered over their heads, and they were able to speak different languages. They left their confinement and went out with courage to spread the message of Jesus throughout the earth. This marked the beginning of the Church – its birthday.
