US could return to the Iran nuclear deal in weeks. The Iran nuclear deal, also known as the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) is an agreement on halting the Iran nuclear proliferation program reached on July 14, 2015 in Vienna (capital of Austria) between Iran, the US, EU, and other world powers. The US entered this agreement during the Obama administration under the leadership of the Secretary of State John Kerry.

  1. Iran entered the nuclear deal because the major world powers were aligned in putting economic sanctions on Iran if they continued proliferation. Economic sanctions are typically a ban on trade, possibly limited to certain sectors, with certain exceptions (such as food and medicine). There are also other types of sanctions like diplomatic sanctions or sports sanctions.
